Why we test
Heavy metal contamination is one of the biggest hidden risks in traditional Chinese herbs, and many confinement brands don’t test for it.
Herbs grow in soil and water, so they can absorb what’s around them. That’s why every batch of herbs in our blends is lab tested and certified, covering identity, moisture and ash, heavy metals and microbial safety.
We hold ourselves to a higher standard: our limits for lead, arsenic and mercury are 2 to 5 times stricter than the official Chinese Pharmacopoeia standard.
What we test for
Every batch is checked against Chinese Pharmacopoeia (ChP) specifications across four groups of tests.

Identity
Appearance, color, odor and plant part are checked, so each herb is genuinely the herb it claims to be.

Moisture & ash
Low moisture and ash show a herb is clean, properly dried and well stored.

Heavy metals
Lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium are measured on every batch, against limits up to 5 times stricter than the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.

Microbial safety
Bacteria, yeast and mold are counted, and E. coli, salmonella and staph must test negative.

Who tests the herbs?
Each batch of herbs is tested by our herb supplier against Chinese Pharmacopoeia (ChP) specifications and comes with a certificate of analysis. The results on this page are taken directly from those certificates.
What does “within limit” mean?
Each certificate sets a maximum for every heavy metal, for example under 1 mg/kg for lead. Within limit means the batch tested below that maximum.
Why do some herbs say “results coming soon”?
These are herbs we’ve recently added to our blends. Their results will be published here as soon as their certificates arrive.
How often are the herbs tested?
Every batch is tested. The results shown are from the most recent batch of each herb.
